In order to sign up comics must be based in Wisconsin and must have performed at our open mic, the Mic on State, at least three times prior to signing up. Throughout the month of April, each Wednesday competing comics will perform first in preliminary rounds, and then, after a round of eliminations some advance to semi-finals, followed by a final round. After the final round of eliminations Madison’s Funniest Comic 2023 will be named! For more details and judging criteria please click HERE.

FAQ’S
Can I make a reservation or buy tickets in advance?
Unfortunately, no. Tickets for these show are only available at the door.
Can I save seats for friends?
Unfortunately, no. Given the popularity of the event seating is first come/first serve and seats cannot be held for any guests that are not present.
How do I get a ballot to vote?
In order to receive a ballot you must be present by the time the show begins at 9:00pm. You cannot pick up ballots in advance for anyone who may be arriving late. This is in order to keep judging fair for all contestants.
What time should I arrive to watch the show?
We recommend arriving as soon as you can to door time (7:30 p.m.) in order to guarantee a spot. Seating is first come, first serve based on availability, similar to our regular Wednesday open mics. These shows tend to fill up quickly and sell out, so we suggest arriving no later than 8:30 p.m.
When will the competition take place?
Madison’s Funniest Comic Competition will replace the weekly Mic on State Wednesday, April 5th through Wednesday, April 26th, with finals taking place the following week on Wednesday, May 3rd. These shows take place from 9 p.m. until roughly 11:00 p.m.
What’s the difference between Madison’s Funniest Comic Competition and the Mic on State?
Madison’s Funniest Comic Competition differs from the Mic in several ways. Unlike the Mic, where individuals have an even shot at getting up onstage each week, the competition requires the elimination of individuals over the course of each week. These eliminations will be based on both audience votes and decisions made by our panel of judges.
